About Me
- Glenn Allen
- Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Glenn was first introduced to wood turning in his high school years. Over time he has perfected his craft, creating larger and more intricate pieces. Glenn’s choice of shape and form is inspired by the individual characteristics of each piece of wood. Looking at the colour and grain, he carefully turns each piece. Many of the ideas for the shapes and forms are inspired by objects encountered in everyday life. Some shapes evolve over time while others come as the piece is being turned. Golden yellow, blue grey, pink and green, each piece is a unique display of colour and pattern, an original, with the grain, colour and imperfections adding character. Glenn and his family now reside on Vancouver Island, where he works for the BC Forest Service Radio Communications. I love my turning. I was drawn to this piece even when it was a rough version of what you see here. I also enjoy the mysticism around the red streak in the wood. I was told by the Glenn that it is believed that the red is representative of how close the piece of wood was to the heart of the tree. This turning sits proudly in my home and I enjoy it each and every day. Thank you for being such an artist and sharing your creations.
